Status: Washtenaw Avenue between Ann Arbor and Ypsi -- Closed in the 1980s and is now built up with townhouses and condos.
General Cinema circuit, 600 cars.
(Evil Sam's Drive-In Theatre Guide/Lenore Hutton 1996)
Update: Closed prior to 1985, Reportedly cost $100,000 to build. (Michigandriveins.com 6/9/03)
Update: The Ypsi-Ann disappeared prior to 1981. I managed the
Willow DI during the summer of '81 and the Ypsi-Ann was gone at that time.
The University DI in Ann Arbor was still open however. (Fredrick R. 9/4/03)
Update: The first Ann Arbor area drive-in theater, the Ypsi-Ann was so named because it was built in a then rural area between Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.
It opened in spring of 1948 (with, appropriately, its first film being "Springtime in the Sierras") at a cost of more than $100,000. The Ypsi-Ann was originally
was run by Arthur and Roger Robinson, who also operated the Scio and Willow Drive-Ins. General Cinemas acquired the Ypsi-Ann, Willow and Scio
Drive-Ins in 1967. The Ypsi-Ann was torn down in 1978 and a store was built on the site.
