11/10/07: The newly restored Dog 'n Suds Drive-In in Muskegon in now OPEN!!! With inside seating as well as curb service, the new
Dog 'n Suds is open year-round.


11/10/07: The Grand Opening ad and article for the the Pleasant Drive-In in Mt. Pleasant in now online, thanks again to Andrew Wilson.


11/10/07: A tip by Dennis Gibbs led us to an article on the 1977 arson fire that destroyed the screen tower at the Sunset Drive-In in Midland.


08/31/07: A recent search through the newspaper archives yielded a fuzzy shot of Lansing Drive-In Marquee from 1973. You saw it first here at Michigandriveins.com!


08/31/07: Where were you in '07? The Old 27 Motor Tour rolled into the Capri Drive-In recently for a very special showing of "American Graffiti" We were there, along with John Milner and Eddie Munster! Check out all the photos.


08/11/07: Andrew Wilson has once again dug deep into the State of Michigan Library Archives and found some 1950's newspaper articles and photos detailing the storm-damaged Ionia Drive-In.


08/02/07: A new feature this summer is the Michigan Drive-In Store. Here you can buy books and movies (through Amazon.com) relating to drive-in's, nostaglia and Michigan. You'll also find a link to our current eBay Auctions. Your purchases help support this site.


05/26/07: A cool new Michigan Drive-In Videos section has been added. Videos include The Algiers, Capri. Coldwater, Denniston, Hi-Way, and M-78. Stay tuned, many more to come!


05/20/07: Tom Magocs, owner of the fabulous Capri Drive-In in Coldwater has dug up a very cool 1960's video of his Dad exploring the abandoned Coldwater Drive-In.


05/20/07: A Michigan Drive-In fan sent in a link to a nice 1956 aerial shot of the Portage Drive-In.


05/12/07: Where were you in '62? The Capri Drive-In in Coldwater will be showing the classic "American Graffiti" on August 21st as part of the Old 27 Motor Tour, a week long classic car cruise. Join the cruisers and meet actor Paul Le Mat, who portrayed John Milner in the movie. Be there or be square!


04/11/07: Several former Dog 'n Suds Drive-In's have been located in Lake City, Jackson, Muskegon and Grand Rapids. New photos of all these are now posted in the Dog 'n Suds section.


03/20/07: Several new shots of the Galaxy Drive-In located in Madison Heights have been added. These classic shots were found in a 1964 issue of Boxoffice Magazine.


02/16/07: More of the cool Birdseye Aerials have been added. They include in the Flint area, the Northland Drive-In former site, the US-23 Twin Drive-In, and the Miracle Twin Drive-In. Also in the Jackson area, we have the Jackson Drive-In and Bel-Air Drive-In graveyards. And, lastly, the Albion Drive-In graveyard.


02/13/07: We have added some very nice shots of the abandoned Starlite Drive-In in Lansing. These were shot by Michael Maurer Smith in January, 1993. Michael also shared some great shots of the Cherry Bowl, M-37, and M-78 Drive-Ins.


02/13/07: Gary at Waterwinterwonderland.com has uncovered our first shot of the long lost Van Dyke Drive-In in Warren. The 3-screen Van Dyke was part of a sports complex that continues today.


02/13/07: Kalamazoo's Douglas Drive-In was spotted in a 1960 aerial shot on the Portage Library's website.


02/11/07: Andrew Wilson has uncovered a new shot of the marquee at the Starlite Drive-In in Ludington. It appears to be a duplicate of the Starlite in lansing.


02/11/07: In anticipation of the upcoming 2007 Season, we've updated the Open Drive-In's Page with expected opening dates.

01/27/07: News Flash!! Three new (old) photos we thought we'd never see! Check out the Traverse Drive-In near Traverse City.


01/27/07: A couple of new "Birds Eye" aerial images are now online. The first is the Miracle Twin Drive-In near Flint.


01/21/07: We have more vintage Box Office Magazine finds! These are from a 1955 article on drive-in marquees. First, we feature the fabulous Blue Sky Drive-In in Pontiac.

01/21/07: More on the beautiful Gratiot Drive-In, from our resident Gratiot researcher, Gratiot Joe. Joe has found an excellent article, which details the opening and also features a shot of the screen construction.


01/19/07: A new photo of the screen and playground at the North Flint Drive-In in Mt. Morris. This shot was found in the April 10th, 1961 issue of Box Office Magazine.

01/07/07: News Flash!...A Michigandriveins.com exclusive...We have very exciting news to report! An old former Dog 'n Suds Drive-In near Muskegon has been purchased and is being restored!! The new owner is Dave Hosticka, who also owns the Montague Dog 'n Suds. Look for the opening of Michigan's second Dog 'n Suds sometime this spring. You read it here first! We also have many new shots of other West Michigan former Dog 'n Suds sites, which will be posted soon.


01/06/07: We finally have a shot of the exterior of the Fort George Drive-In in Metro Detroit, and what a nice shot it is! Many thanks to Rob Imes for digging up this 1950 night shot at the Wyandotte Library.


01/01/07: Jackson resident Hal sent in this nice newspaper clipping, showing the demolition of the Jackson Drive-In screen tower in 1988. This is another drive-in we had no photos off, thanks Hal.

01/01/07: We bring in the new year with a very nice 1950's shot of Manistee's Chippewa Drive-In Theater from Kara Tillotson & Waterwinterwonderland.com.

We've also added a November 1971 Detroit News article about the Bel-Air in Detroit being converted to a twin drive-in.


01/01/07: We've created a new page on Proposed Drive-In Theaters. These are Michigan drive-in's that never made it past the drawing board. Locations include Flushing, Redford, Livonia, Belleville and Wayne.


01/01/07: Good news, bad news. The good news is the Getty 3 in Muskegon will be Getty 4 again in 2007! Work crews are now busy installing a new main screen in preparation for the new season.

The bad news is the Cinema 2 Drive-In in the U.P. is slated to be demolished. The Cinema 2 has been closed since 2001.


01/01/07: The research crews at Michigandriveins.com and Waterwinterwonderland.com are combining forces to produce a book on Michigan Drive-In Theaters! This project is in it's very early stages and we do not have a release date. Stay tuned for more details.
