THANKS TO MANAGER BOB JOHNSON, WHO GAVE US A FULL TOUR OF THE BIG 1600-CAR KENWOOD DRIVE-IN THEATRE,
ONE OF THREE REMAINING
NATIONAL AMUSEMENTS DRIVE-INS.
AFTER JUST A FEW MINUTES OF SPEAKING WITH HIM,
IT WAS OBVIOUS BOB IS THE REASON THIS ONE IS STILL OPEN, HE IS A TRUE
DRIVE-IN LOVER. BOB SPENT MANY YEARS AT THE NEARBY
SOUTH PARK DRIVE-IN BEFORE IT CLOSED IN 1998.

THE 13-24 DRIVE-IN WABASH INDIANA
AUGUST 7th, 2004
A roadtrip though Indiana revealed the
13-24 Drive-In's awesome marquee....
I wondered if it still lit up....
We checked back later, closer to opening time....
Yes it does light up!
These photos don't do it justice....
this neon monster is simply amazing.
For comparison, here's a twin to the 13-24's marquee,
the
Y&W Drive-In up the road in Merrilville Indiana.
Fortunately the
Y&W marquee was rescued from the dozer that
recently took this drive-in down.
The 13-24 Drive-In screen, snack bar and field.
We didn't catch a movie this time, but we'll be back.

NORTH DRIVE-IN KOKOMO INDIANA AUGUST 7th, 2004
A Roadtrip needs to include a drive-in graveyard, the former
North Drive-In
on Route 31 near Kokomo is now a flea market.
Not much to see here, a screen
tower and lots of junk for sale.
HUNTINGTON DRIVE-IN HUNTINGTON INDIANA AUGUST 7th, 2004
The
Huntington Drive-In
on Route 24 in Huntington was well worth the trip. Great food, atmosphere and
presentation. The Burgers, Dogs, Stuffed Pretzels, and French Fries were all
very tasty. "The Village" and "I, Robot" were showing.
The very nicely maintained
Huntington Drive-In Theatre from Highway 24
Screen and playground
The Huntington Drive-In runs a trailer before the movies, featuring images of
dead drive-ins and a message reminding folks what happens to drive-ins when
they don't patronize
the snack bar....how true. This is the old Lake Drive-In in Ohio.
From the same trailer, here is shot of the
Tri-City Drive-In in California.
You can watch this cool trailer at
screenattractions.com They also run a vintage intermission reel with the
classic Pic advertisement.
FUTURE ROADTRIPS
