Update: "The Northwoods Drive-In on M-55 near Houghton Lake was actually east of Prudenville. The screen is still up and the site is occupied by Maple Valley Truss." (Larry Lewis Jr. 3-30-01)
Update: The Northwoods Drive-In is now home to the Maple Valley Truss Co., the address is 4287
Hwy M-55 Prudenville,MI 48651. The screen and snack bar remain, a rental house sits directly in
front of the screen. The occupant of the house indicated the drive-in was closed about 15 years ago,
and the snack bar has been renovated for use by the truss company. He also said the lot is currently
protected by motion detectors, and did not have access to the gate. See photos.

Update: Closed prior to 1988. (Michigandriveins.com 6/9/03)
Update: I worked at this drive-in when I was about 13 or 14 years old. I believe it was 1981. We didn't
use the "ticket booth" at that time, we used an old run down trailer a little further down the drive. I also
ran the concession stand and my two brothers worked the projectors. This place holds so many memories
for me and every time I go by (when we go up north) I remind my kids that I used to work there.

Update: The Northwoods Drive-In was started by Bill and Yvonne Amy in 1975 or 76. The screen and
projection machines came from the old Bay Drive-In Theatre at Pinconning.

Update: Did you know...that the
Meredith DI opened originally in May of 1952 by Hank Gardner...was
remodeled in 1957 by Cassidy & Weiss. The
Midway Drive-In, between Gladwin & Beaverton was 16mm operation,
no in car speakers, but three big horns atop the screen. It ran briefly in 1959 or 60 as well as earlier.
The screen and equipment of the
Northwoods DI actually came from the old
Bay DI near Pinconning. Some fun facts...hope they're useful. And I hope
someone opens Meredith some day again. Sure looked nice last year. (Pat Weaver 4/17/06)
