Niles 31 Outdoor Theatre
History & Comments

Update: From what I can remember, this theatre had two screens in the 70's. cause I can remember turning towards the back seat window and being able to watch the other movie too. And also it was demolished but I don't know what year. (Lora Bandurski 8/4/05)

Update: One of my most vivid memories of this theater was late one night in 1970(-ish). The main screen had caught fire (I do not know how - possibly arson?) and my family and I watched from about one mile away. We were standing in front of the now demolished Gulf gas station at the corner of Highway 31 and Bell road. It was a very surreal event as I was only about ten years old and up way beyond my bedtime. I remember great licks of fire lashing the night sky above the tree line. I was both thrilled and frightened. It was some time before the screen was rebuilt as I remember. (Jon Shelton 5/9/06)

Update: I can remember the little train that was built around the screen for the children to ride in untill the movie began. I lived right behind the theatre where it was easy for us kids to sneak in the woods by the theatre to watch a "free" movie. Everytime I go the the Niles Wal-mart I still have those great memories of that great theatre that I wish was still there! (Kevin Barrett 5/13/06)

Update: It's a shame this is gone. Maybe someone has some photos of Kelley's Miniature Golf, which was just north of the theatre. Also, Bud Eagley's Dog and Suds was right across the street.

Update: Last owners name was Kohlberg Family in Chicago which is still active in Outdoor business. Projectionist for several years was Electus M. Slater in mid 60''s through early 80's. (Waterwinterwonderland.com/Mark Slater 7/19/08)
