Update: Built by Charles Shafer in the early 1990's using screens salvaged from the closed Wayne and Algiers drive-in's. The Ford-Wyoming 6-9 is adjacent to
the Ford-Wyoming 1-5. Open only in the summer, the Ford-Wyoming 6-9 runs movies all-night long, convenient for nearby Chrysler plant workers.

Update: This might be the last year for the Ford Wyoming 6-9. According to an article in the Detroit Free Press, The owner of the properry, who leases
it to Charles Schafer, is interested in redevelopment of the property. I hope this does not happen. The Ford Wyoming is a great drive in and hopefully
will continue for generations to come. (Butch Hoek 7/9/06)
Update: The Ford-Wyoming is metro Detroits last remaining permanent drive-in, but some of its fans have become alarmed because of a sign on the
Wyoming Avenue side of the theater advertising "14 acres for sale." The bottom line: The drive-in is not closing, but some of its land is, indeed, for sale.
Charles Shafer, the Ford-Wyoming owner, said he leases the 14 acres along Wyoming that contain screens 6 through 9, and the owner of the land is
trying to sell it. Even if the owner finds a buyer, however, the screens will remain in operation for the rest of the summer, Shafer said. Shafer owns the
land off Ford Road that hold screens 1 through 5, and that property is not for sale. "Were not going anywhere, Shafer said. "The theater is doing good."
The metro areas first drive-in opened before World War II, and there were about 30 in the 1960s. Sprawl and rising land prices are reasons why most
have closed. The Ford-Wyoming, on the eastern edge of Dearborn, turned 56 years old this month. (Detroit Free Press 7/14/06)
Update: The summer admission price was 3.99 for adults and children under 12 free until 9 pm. Mr. Shafer would have also included
1-5 as well, but the film distributors objected and threatened not to release any first run films to the DI. There were a few films that did open at 6-9 but
those were generally not the big pictures. The Ford-Wyoming 6-9 will probably be open next summer, as the lease on the site doesn't expire until 2009.
After that, well its anyones guess. (Waterwinterwonderland.com/Fredrick Ryan 10/9/07)
Update: I visited this place last night, and according to then people who were working there, the Ford-Wyoming 6-9 Theatres will close for good at the end of business on Sunday, August 30, 2009.
The last movies to show here were on Screen 6) Funny People with The Ugly Truth.
Screen 7) G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra withTransformers Revenge of the Fallen.
Screen 8) Transformers Revenge of the Fallen with G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra.
Screen 9) The Goods, Live Hard, Sell Hard with Public Enemies.
I liked this place better than the 1-5 side. The Ford-Wyoming 6-9 will be missed by all who enjoyed visiting it to see "two movies for the price of one under the stars". (Waterwinterwonderland.com/jt 8/30/09)
