Help us chronicle the History of Michigan Drive-In Theaters! Feel free to e-mail us any photos, information, comments, corrections or questions you have about any Michigan Drive-In Theater. You can submit information by e-mail at the link below. Please include a relevant heading in the "subject" field of your message. As with the guestbook, the submission entry page was just too tempting to the the hackers and we've had to remove it. You must now use e-mail to make submissions.
Please Read Before Submitting!!....We receive many
submissions and e-mails requesting info on what movies are playing, ticket
prices, and when certain drive-ins will be open. The best way to find this
info is to check the OPEN DRIVE-IN'S page. There
you will find phone numbers, addresses and websites for the remaining Michigan
Drive-In's. While we try to keep the opening & closing dates posted there, we
cannot provide current movie listings or pricing. Please
contact the theatre for that info! Also, through thorough
research, we have found, and posted here, details on ALL Michigan drive-in theatres.
If a drive-in existed here in Michigan, odds are you will find it on this site.
Your e-mail address will NOT be posted on the site, nor will it be sold or used for any
solicitation purposes. Please read the FAQ's before submitting. Thanks for your support!!!

1. There's still drive-in's open? I thought they all were closed.
Yes, there are still a few drive-in's open! If I had a nickel for every time I've heard this, I'd own my own drive-in!
Refer to the OPEN DRIVE-INS page.
2. Is your drive-in open?
This is an independant website, which is not owned by or connected to ANY drive-in. I do not own or work at any
drive-in, please refer to the question above!
3. Why did most of the drive-in's close?
There are a few reasons, and together they all caused the demise of most of our drive-in's. Daylight savings time
made watching two movies a very late night affair. Televsion's popularity in the 60's was early
competiton for the drive-in's. Then, the introduction of the VCR and movie rentals was a huge set-back. Many drive-in's
built out on the city limits were quickly gobbled up by urban expansion. Rising land values obviously made selling a
drive-in site a very good business decision. Some simply wore out. Most drive-in's were simply not designed to last 40-plus years,
so time and the elements took their toll. And lastly, a vastly changing culture where people became lazy and wanted to stay
at home more for entertainment helped seal the drive-in's fate.
4. What movies are you showing tonight?
We do not offer movie listings on this site! Please refer to the OPEN DRIVE-IN'S page for contact
info for each open drive-in.
5. Why don't you have movie listings?
Time. I simply do not have the time to keep up with constantly changing movie listings. I am not paid to maintain this site,
it is strictly a hobby!
6. How much are tickets?
This is a question that will be answered when you call the drive-in you plan to attend. This site is NOT operated by any
drive-in theater, it simply offers contact info and locations of the drive-ins. The drive-in's that have their own
websites are listed on the OPEN DRIVE-IN'S page.
7. What time do you open?
8. What time do the movies start?
It varies, usually at dusk. It all depends on the time of the year, July is around 10:00 pm. Check
Weather.com for exact times.
9. Are any drive-ins open in the winter?
Only the Ford-Wyoming Drive-In is open during the winter. The other Michigan drive-in's operating season
is typically Memorial Day through Labor Day. Contact the individual drive-in for exact dates.
10. Can I bring my own food into the drive-in?
None of the remaining drive-in's in Michigan restrict bringing in food. However, you should know drive-in's can only
survive if YOU spend money in the snack bar. They make very little profit from ticket sales, Hollywood gets most of that.
11. I'm planning to build my own drive-in, can you help me?
First, win the lotto. Because it won't be cheap and you won't make much money. Then, your best bet would be to visit the
Driveinworkshop.com and
Driveintheatre-ownersassociation.org websites.
12. Is the Silverdome Drive-In open this year?
The Silverdome Drive-In is history, it is CLOSED! Everything I know about the Silverdome is posted on the
Silverdome page.
Please refer to the OPEN DRIVE-IN'S page for all drive-ins currently open in Michigan.
13. I have photos or info on the "ABC" Drive-In, are you interested?
YES!! Even if we already have photos of a specific drive-in, by all mean please feel free to submit any and all photos,
comments, corrections or suggestions. We are especially interested in any vintage photos and photos of drive-ins we don't
currently have on the site. Please refer to the e-mail address listed below for photo submissions. If you do not have the
means to scan and/or e-mail photos, let me know and we can make other arrangements.
14. Why don't you have the "ABC" Drive-In on your site?
EVERY drive-in
that was ever in operation in the State of Michigan is listed on this website. Please refer to the
SEARCH function at the bottom of every page (before you send an e-mail).. We've included it here as well..........
15. Michigan drive-in and the Fort George missing from listings. Also there was an Ecorse Drive-in
and Trenton Drive-in.
The Michigan Drive-In is the first thing you see on the home page!! Please see question #14!

Thanks much-- great website you have! -- Take Care-- (David Baker, Bettendorf, IA - Quad Cities 10/22/07)
I am greately concerned about the sponsored links on the michigandriveins.com web site. While the banner opposing
a tax on movie tickets is relevant to this web site, the "Deport Granholm" banner has crossed the line. Please
remove the Deport Granholm banner or take my name off the web site pages. (name withheld 10/18/07)
Hi. I just wanted to say GREAT WEB SITE! I'm having a ball stolling down drive in memory lane. And I'm
glad there are still some of the old theaters still standing. Keep up the great work. (Dave Piper 7/25/07)
We just wanted to say that your www.michigandriveins.com site is outstanding and we really appreciate it
and you for having the wherewithall to make it available to all of us to use. The site is a real service
to the Detroit metropolitian community, as well to the entire www user community. (Mark and Marcia Papsun 3/31/07)
