News Article: Butterfield Acquires Battle Creek Airiers: Detroit - The 843-car
Auto Drive-In and the 846-car
West Point at Battle Creek have been taken over by
Butterfield Theatres, largest circuit operator in Michigan. They have been operated for years by the
Midwest Theatre Enterprises and Theatre Operating Co., headed by Al Boudouris, also head of Theatre Equipment Co. of Toledo.
Butterfield has remained predominantly an indoor theatre operator. The late Col. W. S. Butterfield made his home in Battle Creek
although the circuit has been based for 40 years or more in Detroit, where it operates no theatres. The Butterfield has four of the five
theatres at Battle Creek-the Bijou, Michigan, Regent, and Strand. (Boxoffice Magazine 9/23/63)
